A category template states which of its columns are mandatory, and the answer often depends on what else the row says. Discovering that after upload means reading a rejection report, finding the row, fixing it and uploading again. The check happens here instead, against the template you supplied.

Common questions
Will this guarantee my listing is accepted?
No. It checks the listing against the requirements stated in the category template you uploaded. A marketplace can still reject a file for reasons that are not expressed in the template, such as policy or catalogue rules.
